Frequently Asked Questions
Q. HOW DO I KNOW WHEN I NEED AN ADJUSTMENT?
A. Many times you will experience symptoms of pain, stiffness, weakness, diarrhea, fatigue, or a list of other symptoms when the body has nerve interference. This is usually the body’s sign that it is attempting to restore health. A chiropractor will correct the nerve interference and allow the body to heal itself. Many patients will feel so good following an adjustment, they can tell when they “are out”, or “need to be corrected.” Only a chiropractor is trained to detect the subtle changes in the human spine.
Q. CAN’T I “CRACK” MYSELF?
A. While you may get an audible response (crack) and a feeling of release after you self adjust, it is not recommended. Many times our spine or other joints will “pop” even without exaggerated movements and twisting. This is not usually anything to be worried about. However, when you twist your neck or back to make the “pop,” you are taking the body past its limits of motion and ligament and bone damage is possible. Sometimes, a misalignment is beneficial. The body can compensate and misalign to protect or create more support. Once again, only a chiropractor is trained to identify whether a joint needs to be aligned.
Q. WILL I BE REQUIRED TO HAVE X-RAYS TAKEN?
A. It is the policy of our office to only x-ray if your exam or history presents with red flags. We always have the patient’s best interest and safety in mind. Sometimes a patient will be referred out for diagnostic imaging such as x-rays or MRIs.
Q. IS IT TRUE THAT ONCE YOU ARE A CHIROPRACTIC PATIENT, YOU ARE A PATIENT FOR LIFE?
A. You will not be required to set up regular care. However, we feel that with the benefits of chiropractic, you and your family will choose the option of regular check-ups and maintenance. Remember, “It is easier to maintain than to regain!”
Q. HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
A. The length of initial care will depend on many factors including the patient’s age, health, and length of time they have had the condition. Many times you will experience immense relief following one or two adjustments. The following adjustments will maintain the position of the vertebra while the muscles and ligaments continue to hold them in place.
Q. IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT?
A. No, chiropractic care is safe and effective for the entire family. The youngest of babies to the eldest adults can all benefit from having a healthy spine.
